The Masters of Rock Are coming!!
Forget about `power outages`- with enough live electricity to light up a nuclear plant, The Masters of Rock are coming! it`s just over 2 weeks to go to one of the greatest rock concerts to grace these shores, featuring Deep Purple with Uriah Heep and Wishbone Ash.

Tickets for the tour are selling like hot cakes- so much so that extra seats have been brought in to cater for an unprecedented demand for the tour`s Joburg date. South Africans will have possibly their last opportunity to see and hear 3 of rock`s iconic giants live, in a no-holds-barred ,full frontal rock extravaganza at the Coca-Cola Dome Johannesburg on Friday 28th May 2010, ICC Durban Arena on Sunday 30th May 2010 and Tuesday 1st June at the Grand Arena, Grandwest and Entertainment World, Cape Town.

In a recent Australian interview, Deep Purple front man Ian Gillan was asked about the band`s timeless appeal to generations of rock fans-“Up until 15 years ago I would have been very surprised, because contemporary music is a generational thing. It's quite incredible how the audiences have changed in most places in the world. Now our audiences are averaging around 18 years old. It's a shock to me. I said to my daughter after we'd finished a show in Wembley, "Grace, who let all the kids in?" and she said, "Dad, you just don't get it do you? Deep Purple is really cool". She was 15 then, she's 26 now... and writing her own songs”.

Writing on the influential Bob Lefsetz music industry blog last month ,Wishbone Ash`s founder and guitarist Andy Powell muses on the `Ash`s influence on classic rock music over the decades “ We had everyone open for us, from Springsteen, Bob Seger, ZZ Top , Kiss, Aerosmith, Joe Walsh, opened for the Who on the Tommy tour, you name it. The band was influential. You can hear a little bit of my riffage from “Blowin’ Free” in Steely Dan’s “Reelin` in the Years”, Thin Lizzy’s “The Boys Are Back in Town” and the Eagles’ classic, “Hotel California”. I often wonder if fellow MCA stablemates, Lynyrd Skynrd, would have come up with the concept for “Freebird” if they hadn’t been listening to our piece “Phoenix” which was on the first WA album. Currently I’m out there treading the boards globally with 150 - 200 gigs a year just doing what I’ve always been doing and enjoying , playing live !”

URIAH HEEP thrive on drama! That was what one particular scribe said of Heep some time back when reflecting on the history of a band who've not just survived forty years of rock and roll history but have been instrumental in writing part of that very history. Uriah Heep have just revisited some of their classic songs on a new CD/DVD called “Celebration” -40 years of rock” and if recent concert footage is anything to go by then `Heepheads` are in for a powerhouse live set. Not too shabby for a band who one Rolling Stone Magazine writer infamously said of,"If this band makes it I'll commit suicide.” (we wonder if he kept his promise !)

To celebrate the Masters of Rock Tour ,Universal Music have just released 3 special tour cd`s: “The Best of Deep Purple”, a double album of classic Purp`s tunes including songs from the legendary “In Rock” and “Made in Japan” albums plus a new track from the band`s current album “Rapture of the Deep” ; The Best of Uriah Heep” ,a triple album drawn from the band`s classic `70s and `80s catalogue as well as a track from the new album “Wake the sleeper” and, “The Best of Wishbone Ash” featuring choice cuts from the “Pilgrimage”, “Argus”, four” and “Live dates” records.
