It was great fun for VOICE OF ROCK reporter Dylan Du Toit to finally catch up with Mathias Nygard of TURISAS for an interview at this year's Hellfest in Clisson, France.
Turisas is a Finnish folk metal band and was founded in 1997 by Mathias Nygard and Jussi Wickström who named the band after an ancient Finnish God of war.
Turisas is incorporating elements of power metal and symphonic metal along with frequent black metal vocals. Turisas is known to play most of their solos on electric violin, as opposed to traditional guitar solos. The album title Battle Metal has given rise to the term "battle metal" being used as a description of Turisas' genre but it is not yet recognised as a canonical metal subgenre.
Stand Up And Fight is the third album by Turisas, released worldwide on February 23, 2011 through Century Media.The album continues to develop the themes started by The Varangian Way album, but it is not wholly a sequel.
